The Holidays are here!

Finally, the month that I always look forward to has arrived. I am going on a 3 week vacation and definitely looking forward to it. I have booked 'Treasure Island Resort' for early January and there are aboutu 12 of us going. What a blast that should be considering all bures are beachfront with its very own hammock. all water activities are also free. I cant wait to go snorkelling with my mates, as well as do windsurfing, something that I am not good at but need to get it right this time around. Treasure Island Resort is located very close to Beachcomber Island. Both these islands are in the Mamanuca group of the Fiji Islands. Mamanuca group boasts probably the best island resorts and beaches in the country. It is an absolute paradise.

Tri Nations Rugby

Go All Blacks

I personally feel that the match between the All Blacks and the Springboks was a pretty tough one but the scoreline suggested otherwise. Although South African coach Jake White brought a second string team to the Tri Nations outings, they performed really well until the last quarter of the match when the All Blacks stormed in for 3 tries to seal the match.

I am predicting a one sided match come this Saturday when the Wallabies will be battling to gain supremacy in the Bledisloe Cup. I feel the All Blacks will prevail but let's see what the Wallabies have to offer.

Crows Nest Resort

Although I havent stayed at the Crows Nest Resort, I have certainly visited this place 2 to 3 times already. hopefully, if all goes well, I will spend at least 2 nights at this resort with my family. I am a snorkelling freak and the beach at Crows Nest Resort is totally cool. With excellent marine life, sandy beach and a beautiful surrounding. i will write on this resort once i spend a couple of nights there.

My plans for the long weekend!

Tomorrow, we have a long weekend in Fiji. I am so looking forward to this one. I will finally get to wash my car. Haven't done that for ages. Plus I will take some time out to study for my Postgraduate, falling a bit behind. Have been really busy learning the new CMS which was developed by my man Ashraf. check it out: www.international.school.fj

This Saturday, I am planning to take my family to the weekly fire walking ceremony in Pacific Harbour. On Sunday, I plan to visit some long lost relatives and friends. One of them lives in my street!

My Warwick Resort Experience

Welcome back to my journey across the country. Still in coral coast, I would like to discuss my fine experience at the Warwick Resort Fiji. If you have not been to this resort. You should stay here for at least 1 night. Warwick is clearly one of my favourites. It has a beautiful beach with tonnes of activities like Snorkeling, kayaking, volleyball, squash, tennis, fitness gym, 2 gorgeous swimming pools, beautiful night entertainment and excellent restaurants. One of them is called the Wicked Walu, and this is situated on a man-made island off the beach, there is a walking path that leads to the restaurant. Dinner at this restaurant is truly and unforgettable experience. They have brilliant seafood. Warwick resort has a beautiful beach and a gigantic spa. I remember getting out of the spa at 4:30am once. It was just too relaxing.

Swimming lessons for my 1 year old

On Sunday I took my 1 year old daughter into our backyard swimming pool. I was really glad that she wasn't afraid of the water. She loved it! Her paddling skills were awesome. She was fully equipped with floating devices by the way. I certainly hope she will be a good swimmer when she grows up. Then I will be able to take her snorkeling with me.

Sports in Easter

What an awesome easter weekend this was. We got to watch 7's rugby and cricket! I was a bit disappointed with the 7's rugby tournament as my favourite team New Zealand lost in the semi finals. They will hopefully do better in Europe. I find 7's rugby as a very exciting sport, but I like 15's better as it is considered 'real' rugby, 7's rugby is 'diet' rugby! The cricket match between Australia and England was no surprise really. Australia played an awesome game with Ricky Ponting and Michael Clarke creating a great partnership.

Moving into my new flat

Hi everyone, about a week ago I moved in to my new flat in Laucala Beach Estate, Suva. My new home is just 2 minutes drive from my work. It's a real cool flat which also has a swimming pool and classy BBQ hut in the backyard. The only problem is that I don't have a BBQ set yet, will get it soon. Moving to this flat wasn't too much of a hassle as I didn't have to move a lot of stuff. This flat is partially furnished. I have adjusted pretty well considering I lived in my previous house for over 28 years!

Coral Coast - One of my favourites

Hi everyone, today, I will take you towards coral coast, a beautiful coastal setting stretched from just outside Pacific Harbour through to Sigatoka. Coral Coast gives you one of the best coastal driving experiences ever. The absolutely gorgeous views of the white sandy beach as well as the turquoise colour of the ocean makes Coral Coast one of my favourite places. Not to mention the various resorts and hotels that are situated along the coasts of Coral Coast! some luxury resorts along the Coral Coast are: The Naviti Resort, Hideaway Resort, Warwick Fiji Resort, Reef Outrigger, Fijian Resort, Myola (5 Star), Malaqereqere Villas, Tambua Sands, Natadola Beach resort, the upcoming Marriott Resort etc. the above resorts are somewhat upmarket resorts and offer great accomodation. They also have great activities to offer, such as snorkelling, kayaking, tennis, horse riding, squash, golf, pool table, table tennis, gym, spa, swimming pools, game rooms, scuba diving, fishing, hiking, etc. you name it! there are some midmarket and budget resorts too, these are: Casablanca hotel, Crows Nest, Tubakula Beach Resort, Vakaviti lodge, Mango Bay Resort etc. In part 2 of this article, I will relate my coral coast experience with you all. Pacific Harbour - The Adventure Capital of Fiji (Part 3)

Another very popular place in Pacific Harbour is the "Arts Village". Here you will find shops, boutiques, restaurants(which includes a tree top restaurant), souvenir shops, stalls, handicrafts shops etc. every Saturday there is a cultural show which takes place from 10am to midday, some items performed are: cultural dances, Fijian Meke, fashion show, firewalking, story telling etc. Pacific Harbour also has beautiful scenic drives along the coasts as well as in the interior parts. Did I mention there is also a golf course in Pacific Harbour?

Welcome back. Pacific Harbour also has some really good resorts, for instance, the Lagoon Resort, Fiji Palms Beach Resort and The Pearl South Pacific. About twice to four times a year, Pacific Harbour is home to the popular Fiji Car Club quarter mile race. Something that all of my friends and I look forward to. Pacific Harbour also has beautiful beaches, some of which are private, one has to pay a certain amount to use the private beach. This normally amounts to about $2 per person, it includes fresh water tap, changing areas, benches and tables for picnic makers. The white sandy beaches and absolutely thrilling ocean makes Pacific Harbour a very popular spot during weekends.

Pacific Harbour - The Adventure Capital of Fiji (Part 1)

Hi everyone, welcome back. I always had a soft spot for Pacific Harbour, I vividly remember the fun that my family and I had on our regular trips to Pacific Harbour. A family friend of ours used to own some 50 to 60 villas at Pacific Harbour, his name was Harold (May his soul rest in Peace). This guy was the biggest party animal I had ever seen and he was only 55+ at that time. He used to give us the key to any one of his villas to spend the weekend there. His villas were undescribable, totally awesome with its own gigantic swimming pool, master bedrooms, etc. basically, a top notch getaway. Ah, those were the days, we used to invite our very close relatives to party away with us at Pacific Harbour, around the villas, there were rivers where you would find heaps of fish and even crabs, I remember once we caught a couple of "Saqas" (Don't know what they are called in English"). We cleaned them and ate them straight away without a blink. We were so satisfied! at night we would all get together and tell ghost stories! (i am pretty good at it, by the way!) - stay tuned for part 2.

Wainadoi - The Unspoilt Paradise of Viti Levu.

Wainadoi (pronounced "wainandoi) is located about 30 minutes drive from the city of Suva, along queens road. It's a small village with exquisite natural environment, not to mention the pristine waterfalls on the hills. I used to travel to wainadoi waterfalls for a fresh water dip quite frequently as a lad. The place hasnt changed a bit except it has become more popular today than it was about 10 years ago. Wainadoi boasts an outstanding forest reserve. while swimming in the fresh water pools, don't be alarmed to spot the occasional familyof prawns as well as tiny schools of fish. We once tried to follow the river upstream and arrive at the source of the waterfall, but became exhausted after only 20 minutes of hiking. There was a brilliant view from the mountins. This is a place every explorer (like me!) should check out. I am told that the video shooting of "Anacondas: The Hunt for the Blood Orchid" was done around this location. Current Political Situation in Fiji

As you all know there was a coup in Fiji last year on December 5th. There were a few army checkpoints set around the country as far as Lautoka. I am glad to inform you all that the situation in Fiji is really calm and tourists are still flocking to our shores. Absolutely nothing to worry about. today I am planning to take my family to sea walls. A very popular spot for residents of Suva, especially on Sundays. We generally do nothing much but just sit and relax! watch the calm sea and catch up with friends.

Cool Spots in Suva (Part 2)

Every third sunday of the month, a temporary flea market is set up at a particular street in Suva. This is known as the ROC market, here, heaps of home items are on offer, as well as food, clothing, pot plants, childrens' and babies' clothing, vases, frames, artwork, jewellery etc. It's a great day out for many and you often get great value for money.

Cool Spots in Suva (Part 1)

Suva, also known as 'The City of Surprises' (bet you didnt know that) has a lot to offer in terms of activities and places to relax. For instance, Raintree lodge, which is located at Colo-i-Suva, just outside Tamavua is an excellent place to relax and have a great time with family and friends. Raintree lodge offers excellent accommodation suitable for backpackers, couples and families of all sizes. Not only does if offer a soothing environment but the overall setting resembles that of a rain forest. Raintree lodge also has a well-resourced restaurant which offers delicious food.

Destination Fiji

Hi and welcome to my second blog entry. My topic as you know is ‘Destination Fiji’, I will be discussing about this beautiful country and the absolutely incredible holiday destinations on offer. Firstly, Fiji is a small island nation located in the South Pacific about 2100 kilometers north of Auckland, New Zealand. It consists of over 300 islands with Viti Levu and Vanua Levu as the 2 largest ones. Fiji Islands is a truly multicultural country representing about 10 different races, these are: Fijians, Indians, Chinese, Koreans, Samoans, Solomon Islanders, Tongans, Europeans, Rotumans, etc. The three major religions in Fiji are Christianity, Hinduism and Islam. English, Fijian and Hindi are the most popular languages. Suva and Lautoka are the only cities in the country, with Suva being the capital city, which is also a port of entry for major ships including the world’s leading cruise ships. The rest are small towns located on the coasts of Viti Levu and Vanua Levu. Some really small towns are also located inland, examples include: Seaqaqa, Nadarivatu, Vunidawa, Vatukoula etc. Tourism is the biggest earner for the economy while sugar export is second. There are two international airports, one in Nadi and the other in Nausori. Nadi airport caters for huge aircrafts like the Boeing 767, 747, 777, while the biggest aircraft that Nausori airport can handle is a 737 – 800.
